TWIN LOOMS

Twin Threads: Sarule–Alcaraz for a Europe of Vertical Looms

Ongoing

The project

The weaving traditions of Sarule and Alcaraz meet in a twinning project dedicated to vertical looms. Workshops, exchanges and documentation of craft knowledge support dialogue between generations and future European cooperation.

Description

TWIN LOOMS connects the vertical-loom weaving traditions of Sarule and Alcaraz. Workshops, demonstrations and community meetings bring Sardinia’s sa burra tradition into dialogue with the alfombras de Alcaraz. The initiative explores how craft knowledge can reach younger generations and highlights women’s role in weaving. Following the first meeting in Sarule in September 2026, the programme includes an exchange in Spain, audiovisual documentation, a multilingual toolkit and steps towards a European network of weaving towns.

Objectives and activities

Exchange vertical-loom weaving techniques; support the intergenerational transmission of knowledge; document craft heritage and develop cooperation between weaving towns.
