The first transnational event of the European Radical Green project took place in Valletta from 11 to 13 May 2026, co-funded by the European Union under the CERV programme. The official project website is also now online.
The first transnational event was held in Valletta, Malta, from 11 to 13 May 2026, as part of the European project Radical Green – Increasing citizens’ participation in the green transition through art performances and cultural initiatives, co-funded by the European Union under the CERV – Citizens, Equality, Rights and Values Programme, call CERV-2025-CITIZENS-TOWN-NT – Networks of Towns.
The event, entitled “Festival on Youth Engagement for a Radical Green Europe”, was the international partnership’s first in-person meeting and launched the programme of transnational cooperation envisaged by the project.
Coordinated by the Valletta Local Council, the Radical Green project involves partners from Malta, Italy, Albania, France/Corsica and Belgium, aiming to strengthen citizens’ participation, particularly that of young people, in the green transition through art, culture, creativity and civic engagement.
Over the three days, the event brought together institutional representatives, project partners, young people, cultural organisations, artists, experts, local associations and stakeholders interested in sustainability, democratic participation and the promotion of cultural heritage.
Activities included institutional sessions, partner presentations, exchanges of experience on Local Climate Action Groups – LCAG, thematic contributions, creative workshops, cultural visits, networking activities and symbolic planting at Hastings Garden in Valletta.
Through exchanges between territories, institutions and local communities, Radical Green’s first event opened a shared discussion on the role of art and culture as means of making the green transition more accessible, participatory and relevant to citizens.
Particular attention was paid to engaging young people, inviting them to help build a European Climate Action Community and to develop ideas and initiatives in their own territories that connect environmental sustainability, creativity and civic participation.
To mark the conclusion of the first event and the launch of dissemination activities, the official Radical Green project website was also published, available at: www.radicalgreeneurope.org
The website will gradually bring together information, materials, photographs, results and content produced through the project. Initial sections are already available on the project, highlights from the Valletta event, the “Radical Green Europe” Digital Gallery, the Green Action Map, the partners and institutional information about the project.
The platform will serve as the public point of reference for following the development of project activities, documenting the results of the six planned transnational events and highlighting the contribution of the partners and territories involved.
The Radical Green project will run for a total of 21 months and includes six in-person transnational events aimed at promoting dialogue between young people, local institutions, cultural organisations and European communities on sustainability, social innovation and active citizenship.
