From 21 to 23 September 2026, the second transnational event of the European Radical Green project will take place in Shkodër, Albania, focusing on the theme “Art for Earth: Youth Shaping Sustainable Cities Creatively”.

From 21 to 23 September 2026, the city of Shkodër, Albania, will host the second transnational event of the European project Radical Green – Increasing citizens’ participation in the green transition through art performances and cultural initiatives, co-funded by the European Union under the CERV – Citizens, Equality, Rights and Values Programme.

The event, organised by CODE Partners, the project’s Albanian partner, will take place as part of WP2 – Art for Earth: Youth Shaping Sustainable Cities Creatively and mark a new stage in the process begun in Valletta with Radical Green’s first transnational meeting.

Following the opening event in Malta, the partnership will meet in Shkodër to explore the relationship between youth participation, art, creativity, urban sustainability and the green transition, with the aim of strengthening young people’s role as active contributors to climate governance and the sustainable development of local communities.

The programme will involve young people aged 18 to 30, artists, cultural organisations, local authorities, members of Local Climate Action Groups, project partners and representatives of the local community. Through workshops, discussions, artistic activities and co-creation sessions, participants will experiment with innovative ways to communicate environmental challenges and promote sustainable behaviour.

The first day, Monday 21 September, will be dedicated to the official opening of the event at the ARKA Youth Centre, with greetings from CODE Partners, Shkodër’s local institutions, Valletta Local Council as project coordinator, and the partners, including Focus Europe ETS, which conceived and drafted the project. The day will also link the first event in Valletta with the new Albanian meeting, with reflection on the objectives of WP2 and the role of young people, partners and Local Climate Action Groups.

One of the day’s main sessions will focus on the theme “Art for Earth – Sustainable Art as a Tool for Participation in the Green Transition”, with a contribution from artist Stela Tosca, followed by project partners’ presentations of local experiences and good practices.

The second day, Tuesday 22 September, will centre on the theme “From Waste to Art”, with a recycling art workshop involving young participants in transforming waste materials – plastic, glass, paper, metal, textiles and other reusable materials – into original artistic creations linked to environmental awareness and the Radical Green concept.

In the afternoon, the event will continue with a session devoted to digital art and augmented reality for environmental awareness, led by digital artist Terenc Pepa. Participants will explore how digital tools, mobile devices and augmented reality experiences can help to make environmental messages more interactive, accessible and relevant to citizens.

The day will also include a co-creation session entitled “Our Radical Green Shkodër”, during which local and international participants will work together to develop creative messages and artistic concepts linked to biodiversity, recycling, climate action, sustainable cities and youth participation. The results will be documented through photos, videos and descriptions, also in preparation for the project’s communication activities and the future Interactive Map on Recycling Artworks.

The third day, Wednesday 23 September, will be dedicated to collective art for biodiversity. The programme includes a workshop and collective Land Art performance, led by contemporary artist and sculptor Petrit Bilali, entitled “Celebrating Shkodër’s Biodiversity”. The activity will lead to the creation of a temporary installation devoted to local biodiversity, using natural materials exclusively and following the principles of environmental responsibility and the “leave no trace” approach.

At the same time, an environmentally sustainable artistic performance focusing on biodiversity protection and sustainability will take place at the ARKA Youth Centre, with the creation of a mural together with young participants, under the guidance of artist Diomen Borici.

The event will close with a final session devoted to conclusions from CODE Partners, contributions from Valletta Local Council and project partners, and a presentation of Radical Green’s next steps towards WP3 activities.

The second transnational event in Shkodër is a key moment for strengthening the participatory and creative dimensions of the Radical Green project, bringing young people, artists, institutions and local communities into dialogue around a shared vision: making the green transition more tangible, inclusive and accessible through art, culture and civic engagement.
