From 12 to 14 October 2026, Brussels will host the 24th European Week of Regions and Cities. The motto “Strong regions, strong Europe” places the role of local areas at the heart of building a more cohesive Europe that can respond to the needs of communities.

Organised by the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Regional and Urban Policy and the European Committee of the Regions, the event brings together elected representatives, local and regional representatives, experts and organisations to share experience and develop cooperative relationships.

Cohesion, services and local development

The programme addresses challenges such as demographic change, skills and service quality, highlighting solutions based on the specific characteristics of local areas. Debates, workshops and events dedicated to European projects and networks are planned.

How to follow the proceedings

Registration for in-person participation is closed, but several sessions will be broadcast online, including the official opening, high-level meetings on cohesion and the REGIOSTARS awards ceremony. The page dedicated to livestreaming brings together links and updated guidance.

The “EURegionsWeek Close to you” initiative will extend the discussions to local communities through events from 12 October to 20 December 2026.

An opportunity for the organisations in the network

For Focus Europe’s member organisations, following the proceedings can help them compare priorities, learn about transferable experience and identify potential European contacts. The event’s value also lies in connecting the debate on cohesion with the everyday decisions of local authorities.
