The European Commission has opened a call for feedback on the proposed EU Kids Act, concerning children’s safety in digital environments. The deadline for contributions is midnight on 26 November 2026, Brussels time.

A proposal at the heart of European debate

The initiative aims to strengthen protection through safety rules built into the design of services and privacy-respecting age verification tools. The Commission wishes to hear from children and young people, parents, guardians, teachers, educators and interested platforms.

The feedback will be summarised and forwarded to the European Parliament and the Council to inform the legislative debate. This is therefore a consultation stage on the proposal, rather than an announcement of rules that have already been definitively adopted.

Why it also matters to local authorities

From the perspective of local authorities, this consultation offers an opportunity to involve schools, libraries, educational services and local associations. Sharing the information can encourage family participation and help bring practical experience of digital education into the European debate.
