The seventh edition of the project “Discovering Europe” concludes in Brussels, promoted by the Unione dei Comuni del Gerrei and delivered by Focus Europe ETS.
From 13 to 17 July 2026, a group of lower secondary school students from the Gerrei area will take part in an important educational experience in Brussels, at the heart of the European institutions, as part of the “Discovering Europe” project, funded by the Unione dei Comuni del Gerrei and designed and developed by Focus Europe ETS.
The initiative aims to introduce younger people to the European Union, its history and values, the workings of its institutions and the opportunities Europe offers citizens and territories. The programme included an initial phase of educational and information activities for lower secondary school students, with sessions exploring European citizenship, democratic participation and the European Union’s role in everyday life.
Following the preliminary activities carried out locally, including selection tests, the young people who will take part in the educational visit to Brussels have been selected: Alice, Anastasia, Davide, Riccardo, Eva, Daniele, Federica, Eleonora and Federico.
They now have the opportunity to experience European citizenship first-hand: during their stay in Brussels, they will be able to visit some of the European Union’s most representative places, including the Parlamentarium, the European Parliament Hemicycle and the House of European History. The programme also includes visits around the city and cultural activities, with the aim of making the trip both a learning opportunity and an experience of personal growth, exchange and discovery.
The project represents an important investment in young people and the future of local communities. Taking students to the places where Europe takes shape enables them to gain a closer understanding of the value of cooperation between peoples, peace, democracy and active participation.
Focus Europe ETS will accompany the young people throughout this experience, together with the appointed accompanying adults, providing the organisational and educational support needed to enjoy the experience safely and with a full understanding of its educational value.
Through “Discovering Europe”, Gerrei looks towards Europe through the eyes of its young people, offering them the opportunity to feel part of a wider community founded on shared values and a future to be built together.
