The initiative 
GENERAL AIMS
Originally launched in 2003, the Intelligent Energy Europe programme (IEE) seeks to contribute to a secure, sustainable and competitively priced energy for Europe. In line with the targets set out by the EU Energy 2020 Strategy and the longer-term Energy Roadmap 2050, the programme aims in particular at:
- Fostering energy efficiency and the rational use of energy resources;
- Promoting new and renewable energy sources and supporting energy diversification;
- Promoting energy efficiency and the use of new and renewable energy sources in the field of transport.

Il Programma IEE, lanciato nel 2003 dalla Commissione europea, è uno strumento finanziato con circa il 20% del bilancio complessivo del Programma quadro per l'innovazione e la competitività (CIP) 2007-2013, al fine di promuovere lo sviluppo sostenibile e di agevolare gli investimenti in tecnologie innovative ed eco-compatibili.
